In 2022, two geological seminars were organized, attended by a total of 22 geologists from NIS and 33 geologists from the Gazprom Group.
The main organizer of geological seminars, Ivan Dulić, PhD, from the Centre for Regional Geology of the Science and Technology Centre, says that the excursions have caused great interest in the geology of this part of Europe.
During 2021, we successfully organized the first geological seminar with the topic "Deep-water Clastic Sediments of Serbia", which received a very high rating from the participants. Immediately after the completion of this seminar, we received the proposal of the Company's management to organize another seminar related to carbonate sediments. Thus, in 2022, we held two seminars, one related to the deep-water clastites of Serbia and the other related to the carbonate complex of the East Herzegovina Dinarides. The seminar in the Dinarides also attracted great attention of our colleagues from Russia, so it was proposed that in 2023, the third seminar on the topic of petroleum geology of the Pannonian Basin should join these seminars. First, we must point out that colleagues from Russia possess very high knowledge of the regional oil geology of Europe, which allowed us to exchange ideas in a very useful way. It is necessary to emphasize the commitment to the geological science of all participants of the seminar, which significantly contributed to the quality of this training. We sincerely believe that with the organization of 3 planned geological seminars, this year will be even more successful and that it will bring professional benefits to the geologists of our Company – concludes Dulić.
The director of the "Velika Achimovka" cluster of the GPN NTC, Volkov Georgy Vladimirovich, emphasizes the importance of the seminars for the geological profession.
A geological excursion with a programme of studying sources of deep-water sediments – equivalent to formations of Achimovka and other close environments, allows the analysis of different types of rocks not on the materials of the nuclei, but on sources on the surface of the Earth. Visual observation and study of the characteristics of sedimentary material, as well as obtaining updated information on the main concepts of sedimentation, allows to increase the efficiency of the "Geological Modelling" phase. During the seminars, geologists from the project teams, together with experts from other fields, developed methodological approaches that can be applied in order to better understand the Achimovska sediments in Western Siberia, Volkov said.
One of the organizers of the geological seminars, Artem Polivakho, points out that the plan is to regularly hold such excursions, because they are useful in many aspects.
Such events allow us not only to better understand geology, but also to get to know each other better, to strengthen team interaction, to exchange knowledge and experience on many issues. The geology of the Balkans is very diverse, which is why there is an opportunity to show colleagues unique places that they are unlikely to be able to see anywhere else, Artem said.
Participants of the seminar have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the geological structure, the structural and tectonic assembly and model, as well as with the oil and geological characteristics. Based on the data obtained by analysing and interpreting geochemical data within the Centre for Regional Geology of the NTC, participants can see great potential for further oil and geological exploration.
Studying rocks and tectonic situation in the field is very valuable for a geologist. This will never be replaced by online resources. It was useful for me to supplement my knowledge in the field of structural geology and to learn more about the oil and gas systems of this region. In addition to the professional part, I would especially like to commend the atmosphere in which lectures were held. I would like to thank my colleagues for the friendly atmosphere. Geologists also used the visit to Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina to get acquainted with their cultural, historical, and natural values.
